Corydoras pigmy, commonly known as the Pygmy Cory, is a small, peaceful catfish native to the shallow waters of the Amazon Basin. This species typically inhabits slow-moving streams and rivers, where it thrives in sandy substrates and among aquatic vegetation. With its small size, reaching up to 3.5 cm in length, the Pygmy Cory is an excellent choice for nano aquariums, providing both visual appeal and a lively presence.

The Pygmy Cory is characterized by its distinctive appearance, featuring a rounded body and a unique pattern of spots that vary in color from light gray to dark brown. Its fins are delicate and transparent, providing an attractive contrast to its body. These fish are social creatures and prefer to be kept in groups, which enhances their natural behavior and overall well-being.

In terms of behavior, Corydoras pigmy is known for its playful and active nature. They spend much of their time foraging along the substrate for food, using their sensitive barbels to detect edible particles. To ensure the health and vitality of Corydoras pigmy, it is crucial to maintain appropriate water parameters. The ideal temperature range is between 22°C to 26°C, with a pH level of 6.0 to 7.5. Regular water changes are essential, as these fish thrive in clean environments. A minimum tank size of 40 liters is recommended for a small group, allowing ample swimming space and hiding spots.

Feeding Pygmy Corys is straightforward as they are omnivores. A varied diet consisting of high-quality flakes, sinking pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp or daphnia will keep them healthy. It is essential to feed them in small amounts to prevent overfeeding and maintain water quality.

Corydoras pigmy are compatible with many other small, peaceful fish, making them an excellent addition to community tanks. However, it is advisable to avoid larger, aggressive species that may harm them. When introducing new fish, proper acclimation is crucial. Gradually adjusting them to the new environment over several hours will minimize stress.

Quarantine new arrivals for at least two weeks to ensure they are free of diseases before introducing them to the main tank. This practice helps maintain a healthy ecosystem and protects existing inhabitants from potential pathogens.

Corydoras pigmy is suitable for shipping, provided they are packed in oxygenated bags with adequate water volume. The recommended packing density is around 10-15 fish per bag to minimize stress and ensure a healthy arrival. These fish are sensitive to temperature fluctuations, so maintaining a stable environment between 22°C and 26°C during transit is essential. Currently, there are no CITES restrictions on this species.
