Regular water changes and filtration are crucial to keep the environment clean and conducive for their health. Providing a minimum tank size of 150 liters is recommended to allow ample swimming space and territories for these fish.

Feeding should consist of a varied diet, including high-quality flake foods, pellets, and occasional live or frozen foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms to ensure a balanced nutrition. Compatibility with other fish species is generally good, but caution should be exercised when introducing them to aggressive or larger fish, as their peaceful nature may be exploited.

Acclimation is critical when introducing Redbreast Acara to a new tank; slowly acclimate them over several hours to avoid shock. Quarantine new arrivals for at least two weeks to ensure they are healthy and free from diseases before introducing them to the main tank. Regular monitoring for signs of stress or illness will help maintain their health and longevity.

Redbreast Acara are suitable for shipping due to their hardiness; however, care must be taken to maintain stable water temperatures during transit. Packing density should allow for sufficient oxygen exchange, and temperatures should ideally be kept between 24-28°C (75-82°F). Currently, there are no CITES restrictions on this species, making it easier for export purposes.
