The original species description records narrow pale bands and broken worm-like lines on a dark background, with the strong snout mark of zebra-like congeners absent or indistinct. Adults may appear much paler than younger fish. The 3 cm Body Only grade excludes the tail; current stock sex, exact pattern and breeder population are unspecified.
Exact keeper guidance gives 25-29 C and pH 6.5-7.5. Provide varied prepared and small frozen foods, with plant foods particularly for younger fish. Check feeding access and keep breeding groups of different Hypancistrus species separate to limit unintended crosses.
