The Blue Rainbowfish is Melanotaenia lacustris, native to Lake Kutubu and its Soro outlet in Papua New Guinea. Mature fish can develop blue colour, and appearance changes with age and conditions. This ordinary tank-bred 4 cm offer has no stated male-only designation.
The species reference gives 20-25 C and pH 7.0-9.0 in moderately hard water. Use efficient mature filtration, planted margins and open swimming space without strong current. Keep a shoal of at least six to eight and feed varied prepared, live and frozen foods. Confirm measured holding water before transfer.
