Euphyllia cristata, commonly known as Green Grape Coral, is a captivating species of stony coral found predominantly in the tropical waters of the Indo-West Pacific region, with a significant presence in Indonesia. This species is known for its distinctive grape-like appearance, characterized by round, bubble-like polyps that create an enchanting visual display under aquarium lighting. Unlike more abundant coral species, E. cristata is slightly rarer, making it a prized addition to marine collections.

In its natural habitat, Green Grape Coral typically thrives in shallow waters ranging from 1 to 35 meters deep, often forming colonies on rocky substrates. For optimal care, Green Grape Coral requires stable water parameters, ideally with temperatures ranging from 24°C to 28°C, a salinity of 1.020 to 1.025 ppt, and a pH between 8.1 and 8.4. It thrives in moderate to high light conditions, making it essential to provide adequate lighting in the aquarium. Supplemental feeding is recommended, as E. cristata benefits from both photosynthesis and targeted feeding of small planktonic foods or coral-specific supplements.

Compatibility is generally good with other LPS corals, but caution should be exercised when introducing to tanks with aggressive corals, as they may engage in territorial disputes. Acclimation should be gradual to minimize stress, ideally over a period of several hours, particularly if being introduced to a new environment.

Quarantine is advisable for new arrivals to prevent the introduction of pests or diseases into established systems. Regular monitoring of water quality and parameters will help ensure the health and longevity of this coral species in your aquarium.

Green Grape Coral is suitable for shipping, provided it is carefully packed to minimize stress during transit. Packing density should allow for adequate airflow and space to prevent damage to the polyps. It is sensitive to temperature fluctuations, so maintaining a stable temperature between 22°C and 26°C during shipping is crucial. As a CITES Appendix II species, export regulations must be adhered to, ensuring sustainable trade practices.
