The Latticework Soldierfish (Myripristis violacea) is a fascinating marine fish found primarily in the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region. Adult soldierfish typically reach lengths of up to 30 cm, making them a noticeable presence in their habitat, especially during nighttime when they become more active.

They favor habitats with plenty of hiding spots among the coral and rocks, which help them evade predators and ambush prey. Their distribution spans across the Coral Triangle, making them a common sight in popular diving spots in Bali, Indonesia.

In the aquarium trade, they are appreciated not only for their beauty but also for their relatively hardy nature, provided their environmental needs are met. With adequate space and proper care, they can adapt well to life in captivity, enriching any marine aquarium with their vibrant presence.

For successful care of Latticework Soldierfish, maintaining optimal water parameters is crucial. They prefer temperatures between 24°C and 28°C, with a salinity range of 1.020 to 1.025 specific gravity. A pH level between 8.1 and 8.4 is ideal to mimic their natural reef environment. As a carnivorous species, they thrive on a diet consisting of high-quality marine flakes, frozen mysis shrimp, and small crustaceans. Regular feeding is essential to maintain their health and vivid coloration.

When introducing Latticework Soldierfish to a new aquarium, it is important to acclimate them slowly to minimize stress. A quarantine period of at least two weeks is recommended to monitor for any signs of disease before introducing them to a display tank. They are generally peaceful but can exhibit territorial behavior, especially in smaller tanks, so providing ample space and hiding spots is vital for their well-being.

In terms of compatibility, Latticework Soldierfish can coexist with many other reef-safe species. However, caution should be exercised when housing them with more aggressive fish. Ensuring a balanced community will help promote a harmonious environment for all tank inhabitants.

Latticework Soldierfish are suitable for shipping due to their hardy nature. They should be packed in well-oxygenated bags with appropriate water conditions to maintain stability during transit. A packing density of one fish per 5-10 liters is recommended to minimize stress. Temperature should be maintained between 24°C and 28°C during shipping to ensure their health. This species is not listed under CITES, simplifying export regulations.
