The Bluehead Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus cynapleura var) is a stunningly colorful marine fish native to the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region. This species is renowned for its vibrant blue head and contrasting bright yellow body, making it a popular choice among aquarium enthusiasts. The Bluehead Fairy Wrasse typically inhabits shallow reef environments where it can be found darting in and out of corals and rocky crevices, showcasing its agile swimming abilities and territorial nature.

In terms of natural history, these fish are diurnal, meaning they are most active during the day. They exhibit fascinating behaviors, including courtship displays and territorial disputes. Males are particularly vibrant and display their colors more intensely during the breeding season to attract females. For successful care of Bluehead Fairy Wrasses, maintain water parameters close to their natural habitat. The ideal temperature range is between 24-28°C, with a pH of 8.1-8.4. Salinity should be kept around 1.020-1.025 ppt, providing a stable environment conducive to their health. A minimum tank size of 200 liters is recommended to allow ample space for swimming and territorial behavior.

Feeding these fish is straightforward, as they are carnivorous and require a diet rich in high-quality marine pellets, frozen foods, and live prey like brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. It is crucial to feed them multiple times a day to ensure they receive adequate nutrition.

When introducing Bluehead Fairy Wrasses to a new tank, acclimation is essential. Use a slow drip method over several hours to help them adjust to the new water parameters. Quarantine new arrivals for at least two weeks to prevent the introduction of potential diseases to your main display tank. Keep in mind that these fish can be territorial, especially males, so provide plenty of hiding spots and consider their tank mates carefully to avoid aggression.

Bluehead Fairy Wrasses are suitable for shipping, but care must be taken to minimize stress during transport. Packing density should be low to allow for movement and oxygen exchange. Maintain a shipping temperature between 24-26°C to ensure their well-being. These fish are not listed under CITES, making export regulations simpler, but always check local laws prior to shipping.
