The Sponge Blue typically inhabits rocky substrates and coral reefs, where it receives ample sunlight and water movement. This natural habitat supports its growth and reproductive processes, which are vital for sustaining its populations. By replicating these conditions in aquariums, aquarists can ensure the longevity and vibrancy of this beautiful coral species.

Feeding the Sponge Blue involves providing a diet rich in phytoplankton and organic particulates, suitable for filter feeders. This coral is generally compatible with a variety of marine species, though care should be taken to ensure that tank mates do not disturb its delicate structure. Acclimation should be done slowly over several hours, allowing the coral to adjust to new water conditions. A quarantine period of at least two weeks is recommended to avoid introducing pests into the main tank.

The Sponge Blue is suitable for shipping under controlled conditions. It should be packed in a well-aerated container with stable temperatures between 24°C and 26°C during transit. Due to its sensitivity to fluctuations in water quality, it is critical to minimize packing density. Currently, there are no CITES restrictions on this species, making it easier for exporters to supply it to the market.
