They thrive in slightly acidic to neutral pH levels ranging from 6.0 to 8.0, with a minimum tank size of 200 liters to accommodate their size and activity. The ideal water temperature should be maintained between 24°C and 28°C, with regular water changes to ensure optimal conditions. Oscars are omnivorous and benefit from a varied diet that includes high-quality pellets, frozen or live foods such as shrimp and worms, and occasional plant material to ensure balanced nutrition.

Compatibility is an important consideration when housing Oscars. While they can coexist with other semi-aggressive species, caution is advised to prevent bullying. It's recommended to introduce tank mates that are similar in size and temperament. Acclimation should be gradual, utilizing drip acclimation methods to minimize stress when introducing new fish to the aquarium.
