Confirmed native range: Nethravati drainage, Karnataka, India; offer: tank bred
Current taxonomy restricts confirmed Dawkinsia assimilis to the Nethravati drainage in Karnataka, India. Older accounts included fish from other rivers that are now recognised as distinct species. The name is therefore more informative than a general Mascara Barb trade label.
Verified habitat comprises deep main-channel pools with slow current, fallen branches, sand, boulders and gravel. Mature males develop elongated dorsal-fin rays; this juvenile offer specifies neither mature fin development nor sex.

Prepare stable freshwater with swimming room, shelter and appropriate filtration. Ask for the breeder’s holding-water measurements and accepted feed, and acclimate against those current values. Observe feeding and interactions before selecting companions. Numerical care ranges from older mixed-species accounts are not presented as verified requirements for D. assimilis under the revised taxonomy.
