Reference fish occur along Lake Malawi western shores, where rock meets sand. Mature males are larger and more colourful than females, but these tank-bred grades do not select sex or certify a Benga founder population. The listing retains its 2-inch, 5 cm, 9 cm and 10 cm options with separate minimums and packing.
Species guidance gives 25-29 C and pH 7.5-9.0, with hard water and an adult base of at least 120 by 45 cm. Use fine sand, rock shelter and open feeding areas in mature filtered housing. Offer varied fine prepared and small live or frozen foods. Avoid similarly coloured male rivals and mixing Aulonocara species if preserving breeding identity; confirm breeder water and sex composition.
