Reference fish are olive-brown above with silvery sides, a yellow tail and chequered scale margins; small fish have dark pectoral fins. The institutional maximum is 70 cm total length. The wild-caught 7-10 cm offer does not specify collecting locality, sex or adult colour intensity.
Confirm measured holding salinity, water chemistry, accepted foods and long-term adult housing before receiving. Provide mature well-filtered space suitable for a large active mullet and monitor food intake. Its reference diet includes phytoplankton, algae and detritus. Freshwater, estuarine and marine records do not select one salinity for every population or life stage.
