Plerogyra sinuosa, commonly referred to as Green Bubble Coral or Bladder Coral, is a fascinating species of coral belonging to the phylum Cnidaria. This coral is noted for its distinctive grape-sized bubbles that can expand significantly during the day to maximize light exposure. At night, these bubbles contract as the coral's tentacles emerge to capture plankton and other small food particles in the water, showcasing its dual nature as both a photosynthetic organism and a filter feeder.

To successfully care for Green Bubble Coral, it is essential to replicate its natural habitat conditions. Optimal water parameters include temperatures ranging from 24°C to 28°C, a salinity level of 1.023 to 1.025 ppt, and a pH of 8.1 to 8.4. Gentle water flow is crucial to prevent stress and damage to the coral's delicate structure.

Feeding should include a diet of fine particulate foods, such as phytoplankton, zooplankton, and other small marine organisms, ideally supplemented with liquid coral foods to enhance its nutrition. While this species can perform photosynthesis, supplemental feeding enhances growth and overall health.

Green Bubble Coral is generally compatible with other non-aggressive corals and marine life. When introducing it to a new aquarium, acclimation should be done slowly to minimize stress—float the coral in the tank for about 30 minutes, gradually mixing tank water into the bag. A quarantine period of 2 to 4 weeks is recommended to prevent disease transmission to other inhabitants.

Green Bubble Coral is suitable for shipping, provided proper packing methods are employed to maintain a stable environment. Use insulated boxes and temperature-controlled packs to ensure the coral remains within optimal temperature ranges during transit. Packing density should allow for adequate water circulation while minimizing movement. This species is not listed under CITES, simplifying export requirements.
