They are known for their territorial behavior, particularly during breeding season, when males will defend their nesting sites aggressively. Despite their sometimes aggressive demeanor, they can coexist with other species when provided with ample space and hiding spots.

The diet of the Black Mouth Damsel primarily consists of zooplankton and algae, which they forage from the reef. This omnivorous feeding habit allows them to thrive in various marine environments. Feeding should include a balanced diet of high-quality flakes, pellets, and frozen foods rich in protein and vegetable matter. Regular feeding will promote healthy growth and vibrant coloration. When introducing Black Mouth Damsels to your aquarium, ensure compatibility with other fish species, as they can exhibit aggressive behavior towards smaller or more docile tank mates.
