The Multicolored Dottyback (Ogilbyina novaehollandiae) is a strikingly colorful marine fish native to the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region. In an aquarium setting, they will readily adapt to commercially available marine foods, making them easier to care for compared to other species.

Due to their vibrant coloration and engaging behavior, the Multicolored Dottyback is an excellent addition to reef aquariums. However, it's important to maintain optimal water conditions and provide adequate hiding spots to ensure their well-being and reduce stress in captivity.

To successfully care for the Multicolored Dottyback, maintaining appropriate water parameters is crucial. They thrive in temperatures ranging from 24°C to 28°C, with a salinity of 1.020 to 1.025 ppt. The pH level should ideally be between 8.1 and 8.4. A minimum tank size of 100 liters is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and territory for these active fish.

Feeding a balanced diet is essential for their health. Offer high-quality marine flakes, pellets, and frozen foods containing proteins such as mysis shrimp and brine shrimp. Regular feeding, approximately 2-3 times a day, will ensure they receive adequate nutrition.

Compatibility with other species is generally good, but caution is advised as they can be territorial, especially in smaller tanks. It is best to introduce them to a well-established aquarium with plenty of hiding spots. Acclimation should be done slowly to reduce stress, using drip acclimation methods over a period of several hours.

Quarantining new arrivals for at least two weeks before introducing them to the main tank is recommended to prevent the spread of potential diseases. Regular monitoring and water quality testing will help ensure a healthy environment for the Multicolored Dottyback.

The Multicolored Dottyback is suitable for shipping due to its robust nature. Packing density should be moderate to ensure adequate water circulation. Maintain water temperatures between 22°C and 28°C during transit to minimize stress. This species is not listed under CITES, making export regulations straightforward.
