As a carnivorous species, they require a varied diet consisting of high-quality pellets, frozen or live foods like shrimp and small fish to ensure optimal health.

When introducing Swallowtail hawkfish to a new aquarium, proper acclimation is essential. This can be achieved through a slow drip method over several hours to minimize stress. Quarantine is also recommended for new arrivals to prevent the introduction of any potential diseases into the main tank. They are generally compatible with many other reef species, but care should be taken to avoid pairing them with aggressive fish that may disrupt their territorial behavior.

Due to their natural instincts, providing plenty of hiding spots with live rock and coral structures is necessary to help them feel secure. A minimum tank size of 100 liters is advisable to ensure adequate swimming space and territory for this species.

The Swallowtail hawkfish is well-suited for shipping due to its hardy nature. It is recommended to maintain a packing density of 1 fish per liter during transport to reduce stress. Temperature should be carefully monitored, with a target range of 24°C to 26°C during shipping. This species is not listed under CITES, simplifying export procedures.
