Inhabiting reefs and rocky bottoms, the bearded scorpionfish prefers depths ranging from 1 to 50 meters. It thrives in areas with ample hiding spots, where it can easily conceal itself from both predators and prey. This species is particularly prevalent in regions with rich biodiversity, contributing to the ecological balance of its environment.

When caring for bearded scorpionfish, maintaining optimal water parameters is crucial. The ideal temperature range for these fish is between 24°C to 28°C, with a salinity level of 1.020 to 1.025 ppt. A pH level between 8.1 and 8.4 is recommended to ensure their well-being. Importers should provide a minimum tank size of 200 liters to accommodate their territorial nature and allow for adequate swimming space.

Feeding should consist primarily of a carnivorous diet, including small fish, shrimp, and other marine invertebrates. It is important to offer a varied diet to promote health and vitality. Compatibility with other species can be tricky; while they may coexist with similarly-sized fish, caution is advised to avoid aggression and territorial disputes.

Acclimation should be approached slowly to minimize stress, utilizing drip acclimation methods over several hours. Quarantine procedures are highly recommended to prevent the introduction of pathogens into established systems. Monitor for any signs of stress or illness during this period, ensuring a smooth transition into the display aquarium.

Bearded scorpionfish are suitable for shipping, but careful planning is required to ensure their survival during transit. Packing density should be moderate to avoid stress, and maintaining temperature stability around 24°C to 26°C is essential. This species is not listed under CITES, but adherence to local export regulations is necessary.
