The Feather Star (Colobometra perspinosa) is a striking marine echinoderm that belongs to the class Ophiuroidea. This species is characterized by its delicate, feather-like arms that can extend several times the width of its central disc, allowing it to filter feed effectively in the water column. The arms are covered in tiny tube feet that help the Feather Star capture plankton and organic debris, making it a fascinating addition to any marine aquarium.

In terms of appearance, the Feather Star typically displays a range of colors, including vibrant reds, yellows, and greens, which can vary depending on its habitat. For importers and retailers handling Feather Stars, it is crucial to maintain optimal water parameters to ensure their health. Ideal temperature ranges between 24-28°C, with a salinity of 32-35 ppt. The pH should be kept stable between 8.1 and 8.4. Feather Stars thrive in larger tanks, with a minimum size of 100 liters recommended to provide ample swimming space and stable conditions.

Feeding these echinoderms involves providing a diet rich in small planktonic organisms. High-quality marine snow or specialized filter feeder foods can be offered regularly. Compatibility with other species is generally good, but care should be taken to avoid aggressive tank mates that may disturb them. It is advisable to acclimate Feather Stars slowly to prevent shock, using a drip acclimation method over several hours.

Quarantine is highly recommended before introducing them into a main display tank to prevent any potential disease transmission. Monitor them closely during this period and ensure their feeding behavior is consistent, as this is a key indicator of their well-being.
