This Bornean freshwater species is reported from the Kapuas, Belayan and Mahakam systems in Kalimantan. A dark lower tail lobe with a reddish tint helps distinguish it from similar Crossocheilus; its lateral stripe can break into separate marks during stress, rest or interactions.
Crossocheilus browse biofilm on submerged surfaces, but an algae-eater trade name does not guarantee control of a particular aquarium algae problem. The collection site and actual fish lengths for this batch are unspecified.

Provide a mature system with clean, well-oxygenated water, current and rock or wood surfaces for grazing. Maintain at least six together, allowing shelter and space for their social hierarchy. Specialist reference conditions are 20–26°C and pH 6.0–7.5. Use plant-rich prepared foods and suitable vegetable material alongside available biofilm; do not rely on aquarium algae alone. Confirm the actual grade and holding water before arrival.
