Native to the slow-moving rivers and streams of Colombia, this freshwater fish thrives in heavily vegetated environments where it finds both cover and food. This species typically reaches a maximum length of about 15 cm, showcasing a slender, elongated shape that is characteristic of many catfish. In terms of habitat, the Colombia Wood Catfish prefers soft, slightly acidic to neutral water with ample hiding spots. To successfully care for the Colombia Wood Catfish, maintain water parameters that reflect its natural habitat. Ideal temperature ranges from 24°C to 28°C, with a pH level between 6.0 and 7.5. The fish prefers a well-filtered aquarium with gentle water movement, as strong currents can stress these sensitive creatures. A minimum tank size of 100 liters is recommended to provide sufficient space for a small group.

Feeding should include a varied diet that consists of high-quality sinking pellets, frozen or live foods such as bloodworms, and vegetable matter. This omnivorous species will appreciate the addition of blanched vegetables like zucchini or peas. Compatibility is high with other peaceful species; avoid aggressive or overly large tank mates that may stress or harm the catfish.

Acclimation is crucial for this species, so introduce them to the aquarium slowly, allowing them to adjust to the new environment. A quarantine period of at least two weeks for new arrivals is advisable to prevent the spread of disease, ensuring a healthy start for your stock.

The Colombia Wood Catfish is suitable for shipping due to its hardy nature. When packing, ensure adequate space to prevent stress, ideally 1 fish per 2 liters of water. Temperature during transit should be maintained between 24°C and 28°C, as extreme fluctuations can be detrimental. Currently, this species is not listed under CITES, facilitating smoother export processes.
