The Corydoras Panda (Corydoras panda) is a small, freshwater fish native to the Amazon Basin, primarily found in the slow-moving waters of rivers and streams. This species is easily recognizable due to its distinctive black and white coloration, resembling the appearance of a panda. Adults typically reach a maximum size of about 5 cm, making them an ideal choice for community aquariums.

In terms of natural history, Corydoras Panda are bottom-dwellers, often seen foraging for food among the substrate. They thrive in groups, displaying a variety of social behaviors, which enhance their appeal in aquariums. These fish are known for their peaceful disposition, making them compatible with a variety of tank mates, provided the companions are similarly non-aggressive.

Corydoras Panda prefer densely planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots created by rocks and driftwood. They are found in environments with soft, sandy substrates where they can easily dig and search for food. The water conditions in their natural habitat are typically warm with a slightly acidic to neutral pH, making these parameters important to replicate in captivity.

Behaviorally, Corydoras Panda is active and curious, often darting around the tank in schools. This species exhibits a unique characteristic of 'playing dead' when threatened, which is a fascinating sight for aquarists. Their sociable nature encourages group dynamics, providing engaging activity within the aquarium environment.
Caring for Corydoras Panda requires attention to their specific environmental needs. Ideal water parameters include a temperature range of 22-28°C, a pH of 6.0 to 7.0, and soft water conditions. Consistent water quality is crucial, so regular water changes and filtration are recommended.

Feeding Corydoras Panda is straightforward, as they are omnivores. A balanced diet including high-quality sinking pellets, frozen or live foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp, and supplementary vegetable matter will ensure their health. It’s essential to feed them small amounts multiple times a day rather than large quantities to prevent water contamination.

These fish are best kept in groups of at least six to promote their natural social behaviors. They are compatible with many community tank species but should avoid aggressive fish that may stress them. Acclimation should be gradual, allowing them to adjust to new water conditions over several hours. Quarantine new arrivals for a minimum of two weeks to prevent the introduction of diseases to existing stock.
Corydoras Panda are suitable for shipping due to their hardy nature, but care must be taken to maintain stable temperatures between 22-28°C during transport. Packing density should allow adequate space for movement while minimizing stress. Ensure proper oxygenation in the shipping bags. This species is not listed under CITES, which simplifies export procedures.
