Stigmatogobius sadanundio, commonly known as the Knight Goby, is a distinctive species of goby native to South Asia, ranging from India to Indonesia, including Sri Lanka and the Andaman Islands. This species thrives in freshwater habitats, predominantly inhabiting estuaries and the tidal zones of rivers. Its unique ability to adapt to varying salinity levels makes it a valuable addition to both natural ecosystems and the aquarium trade.

The Knight Goby exhibits a remarkable appearance, characterized by its elongated body and vibrant coloration, which often includes shades of green, brown, and yellow. The fish's large eyes and distinctive markings contribute to its appealing aesthetic, making it a sought-after species for aquarists. Adult Knight Gobies can reach an impressive size, typically growing up to 10 cm in length. For successful care of Knight Gobies, maintaining stable water parameters is crucial. Ideal water temperature ranges from 24°C to 28°C, with a pH level between 6.5 and 7.5. It is important to keep the water well-filtered and slightly brackish, as they can adapt to low salinity levels, which mimics their natural habitat.

Feeding Knight Gobies is straightforward, as they are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet. High-quality flake foods, frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp and bloodworms are ideal for providing balanced nutrition. Regular feeding ensures they remain active and healthy.

When introducing Knight Gobies to a new aquarium, a proper acclimation process is essential to reduce stress. Gradually adjusting them to the new water conditions over several hours is recommended. Quarantine is also advisable for new arrivals to prevent the spread of any potential diseases.

Knight Gobies are generally compatible with other peaceful species, but care should be taken with larger or more aggressive fish. Providing plenty of hiding spots and territories will help reduce stress and aggression, ensuring a thriving community tank.

Knight Gobies are suitable for shipping, but proper care must be taken to ensure their well-being during transit. They should be packed with adequate water volume, allowing sufficient oxygenation. Maintaining a temperature between 22°C to 26°C is crucial to prevent stress. As of now, this species is not listed under CITES, ensuring easier export procedures.
