Koran Angelfish

The Koran Angelfish (Pomacanthus semicirculatus) is a striking marine species known for its vibrant coloration and distinctive circular patterns. This species can grow to a maximum size of about 30 cm, making it a substantial presence in any aquarium setting.

Native to the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region, the Koran Angelfish thrives in reef environments where it feeds primarily on algae, sponges, and other small invertebrates. This fish is often found in shallow waters, typically at depths ranging from 5 to 30 meters, where it can easily access its preferred food sources. The Koran Angelfish displays a range of behaviors including foraging and territoriality, particularly during breeding seasons.

Socially, Koran Angelfish can be somewhat aggressive, especially towards their own kind, and they may establish territories within their habitats. They are known to be relatively hardy but require ample space and hiding spots in an aquarium to reduce stress and aggression. Koran Angelfish require specific water parameters to thrive, ideally a temperature range of 24-28°C, a pH of 8.1-8.4, and salinity levels between 1.020 and 1.025 ppt. It is essential to provide a spacious aquarium of at least 300 liters to accommodate their size and territorial nature. A well-filtered environment with plenty of live rock and hiding places will help mimic their natural habitat and reduce stress.

Feeding should include a varied diet rich in marine algae, high-quality pellets, and occasional meaty foods such as brine shrimp or mysis shrimp to ensure optimal health. Regular feeding helps maintain their vibrant colors and promotes growth. Compatibility can be challenging; therefore, it is advisable to introduce them to a community tank with care, ensuring tank mates are not overly aggressive or similar in appearance.

Acclimation should be done slowly over several hours to minimize stress, and it is recommended to quarantine new arrivals for at least two weeks before introducing them to the main tank. This practice helps prevent the spread of diseases and ensures a healthier environment for all tank inhabitants.

Koran Angelfish are sensitive to temperature fluctuations, making proper shipping conditions critical. They should be packed in insulated boxes with adequate oxygen supply to maintain stability during transport. A packing density of one fish per 10 liters of water is recommended to ensure their safety. CITES status is not applicable as the Koran Angelfish is not listed, but adherence to local export regulations is essential.
