Collete's Basslet (Liopropoma colletti) is a striking marine fish native to the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region. Known for its vivid coloration, this species exhibits a range of hues from vibrant yellow to deep blue, making it a sought-after addition for marine aquariums. Its small size and unique appearance have garnered attention from both hobbyists and professional aquarists alike.

In terms of natural history, Collete's Basslet typically inhabits rocky and coral-rich environments at depths ranging from 15 to 50 meters. They are often found in small groups or solitary, preferring to hide among the crevices of the reef, which provides both shelter and hunting grounds for their prey. Their diet consists mainly of small crustaceans and zooplankton, which they actively hunt in the water column.

Behaviorally, Collete's Basslet is known for its shy and elusive nature. They are not aggressive and can coexist peacefully with other reef inhabitants, although compatibility with larger or more boisterous species should be monitored. Their vibrant colors and graceful movements make them a captivating sight in any aquarium setting, but they do require specific conditions to thrive.

This species plays a critical role in the ecosystem by contributing to the health of coral reefs. As part of the food web, they help maintain balance within their habitats, making their conservation essential in the face of environmental changes. Sustainable harvesting practices are crucial to ensure the longevity of this beautiful species in the wild.
Collete's Basslet requires specific water parameters to thrive in captivity. Ideally, keep the water temperature between 24°C to 28°C, with salinity levels around 1.020 to 1.025 ppt. The pH should be maintained between 8.1 and 8.4 to replicate their natural reef environment. A minimum tank size of 100 liters is recommended to provide ample swimming space and hiding spots.

Feeding should consist of a high-quality diet rich in protein. Offer a variety of small pellets, frozen or live food such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp, ensuring a balanced intake of nutrients. Regular feeding 2-3 times a day is ideal to keep them healthy and vibrant.

In terms of compatibility, Collete's Basslet tends to do well with smaller, peaceful fish. It is advisable to avoid pairing them with aggressive species that may stress them. Acclimation should be done slowly to minimize shock; use the drip acclimation method over several hours. Quarantine new arrivals for at least two weeks to monitor for any signs of disease before introducing them to the main display tank.
Collete's Basslet is suitable for shipping, provided proper care is taken during transit. Packing density should be low to minimize stress, ideally keeping one fish per bag to ensure adequate oxygen levels. Maintain water temperatures within 22°C to 26°C during shipping to prevent thermal shock. This species is not listed under CITES, simplifying export regulations.
