The Fire Dartfish, scientifically known as Nemateleotris magnifica, is a captivating marine fish that inhabits the coral reefs of the Indo-Pacific region. It is characterized by its elongated body, which can reach up to 10 cm in length, and striking coloration, featuring a brilliant orange-red head that transitions into a pale blue body and a striking yellow tail. Their natural habitat is crucial for their survival, as it provides ample hiding spots from predators and a rich environment for feeding on small zooplankton and crustaceans.

When caring for Fire Dartfish, maintaining stable water parameters is crucial. Ideal temperature ranges from 24°C to 28°C, with a salinity of 1.020 to 1.025 ppt. pH levels should be kept between 8.1 and 8.4 to mimic their natural habitat. A minimum tank size of 100 liters is recommended to provide ample swimming space and hiding spots.

Feeding Fire Dartfish is relatively straightforward as they are carnivorous, primarily consuming small live foods such as brine shrimp and mysis shrimp. It is important to provide a varied diet to ensure they receive all necessary nutrients. Compatibility is generally good with other peaceful reef fish; however, aggressive tankmates should be avoided to prevent stress.

Acclimation should be done slowly, allowing the fish to adjust to new water conditions over a few hours. Quarantine is highly recommended for new arrivals to prevent potential disease outbreaks in the main tank. By providing a stable environment and proper care, Fire Dartfish can thrive and display their vibrant colors in any well-maintained marine aquarium.

Fire Dartfish are suitable for shipping due to their hardiness; however, careful handling is essential. Packing density should allow for adequate water circulation and oxygen levels. Maintain shipping temperatures between 22°C and 26°C to minimize stress. These fish are not listed under CITES, making them easier to export.
