Wild Wrasses (Pseudojuloides sp.) are a captivating group of marine fish that thrive in the tropical waters of the Coral Triangle, particularly around Bali, Indonesia. These fish are characterized by their elongated bodies, vibrant coloration, and unique patterns that make them stand out in any aquarium setting. Adult wrasses typically exhibit a range of colors, including bright blues, greens, yellows, and reds, depending on the species, which contributes to their popularity among aquarium enthusiasts and wholesalers alike.

In their natural habitat, Wild Wrasses inhabit coral reefs, where they play a crucial role in the ecosystem by controlling the population of small invertebrates and algae. They are known for their active and inquisitive behavior, often seen darting in and out of crevices and around coral formations. This dynamic behavior makes them a lively addition to community tanks, where they can display their natural instincts and social interactions.

Wild Wrasses are generally diurnal, meaning they are most active during the day. They have a diverse diet primarily consisting of small crustaceans, worms, and other invertebrates. Their feeding habits not only aid in their growth and health but also contribute to the overall balance of their reef environment. As such, they require a varied diet in captivity to thrive.

These fish are best suited to aquariums that mimic their natural habitat, including plenty of hiding spots and live rock. Their vibrant appearance and energetic nature make them a favorite among marine aquarists, but they require proper care and attention to ensure their well-being in a captive environment.

When caring for Wild Wrasses, it is essential to maintain stable water parameters to ensure their health and longevity. Ideal water temperature ranges from 24°C to 28°C, with a salinity level between 1.020 and 1.025 ppt. The pH should be maintained between 8.1 and 8.4 to replicate their natural environment. A minimum tank size of 200 liters is recommended to provide ample space for swimming and hiding.

Feeding Wild Wrasses requires a varied diet, including high-quality marine pellets, frozen foods such as shrimp and brine shrimp, and live foods to stimulate their natural foraging instincts. They are generally peaceful but can exhibit territorial behavior, especially among males. It is advisable to introduce them into a community tank with compatible species, such as peaceful reef fish.

Acclimation is crucial when introducing Wild Wrasses to a new aquarium. A slow drip acclimation method is recommended to minimize stress and ensure a successful transition. Additionally, a quarantine period of at least two weeks is advisable before introducing them to the main tank, allowing for observation and treatment of any potential health issues.

Wild Wrasses are suitable for shipping due to their resilience, but careful packing is essential to minimize stress. Use insulated boxes with adequate oxygen supply and maintain a stable temperature during transit, ideally between 24°C and 28°C. Ensure proper packing density to prevent injury and stress. Currently, there are no CITES restrictions on Wild Wrasses, making them easier to export.
