Published accounts place the reference species in the Democratic Republic of Congo, around plant-lined ponds, creeks and drainage ditches. Females carry developing young in the mouth. The supplier genus spelling omits a letter; the accepted name is Pseudocrenilabrus nicholsi. A shipping grade does not establish sex or an established breeding group.
Species guidance gives 22-25 C and pH 6.0-8.0. Provide mature filtered accommodation with plants, roots or sheltered cavities. Plan territorial floor space, watch competing males and avoid crowding other bottom dwellers. Offer a varied accepted diet of suitable prepared, live and frozen foods; confirm breeder conditions.
